so along time since i last wroter but weve been getting absolutly loads done.
the first thing to tell you is that i went back to masibambisane (the day centre) for a couple of days to prepare to go to a high school and do a talk and some activities to raise awareness of human trafficking. i was so nervous at start but had a really good team did well and got a huge buzz after it, there were over 40 children in each classs!
the staff at masibambisane are all volunteers that live of a stipend of about 100 pounds a month, but it is dry season so there is no money to give them they have no food and no money for rent but are still going to work every day amazing. we have donated some money for food out of the money weve raised.
also i went to the lion park for the weekend which was amazing. held baby lions saw big lions.
quadbiked through the south african bush and saw giraffes zebras and other wild animals also it had a pool whiich we all apreciated.
i now have sad news and happy news.
sad news one of the newbornbabies died over nite and more have been brouhgt in.
good news. some of the babies are being adopted.

wow internet long time no see!
wow havent written in so long dont really know where to start!
basically i was workin in another childrens centre in the day and at the orphanage at nite but since monday i have swapped and am now full time at the orphanage but the children older than 5 go 2 school till about 1.30+, so the day starts with if your on earlys you help the children get ready for school at 6 then to the nursery to bath and dress the babys and toddlers, then breakfast them. then its up to you pretty much to find something useful 2 do the rest of the day you can spend it in the nursery or creche though.
there is one child called jabulani who is 7 and doesnt go to school yet we call him ferrel child because he is just ssoooo wild. but sometimes i like to play educational games with him in the day otherwise he just runs about making trouble all day, hes a good kid but really rough.
this week ive also been to johannesburg to take some of the babys to hospital, been to a human trafficking talk (wich is very talked about at the moment due to the world cup is getting quite scary for women and children) and we had a huge 2 truck load donation of pampers nappys so was some heavy duty stuff getting that in, but everyone was so happy as were really running out of nappies and had no more funds!
Bongani 1 of the boys id mentioned in a previos post was sent to juvinille but has come back now and is very well behaved but the space for him is now gone and they are looking for a new home for him although he still thinks hes going to his family home. bless!
Roger is also much better behaved as he is now on medication.
there is a baby in the nursery named gugu who im absolutly in love with shes really frail and slow very behind what she should be at her age. she really needs 1 on 1 attention to develope properly which she just cant be given here so im giving her as much as i can.
tomorrow we have been given free ice skating time for us and the children wich there really excited about!
last week we went to lesedi cultural village wich is all about south african history was a really nice day out we goot a buffet where we were like vultures i had snake and ostrich. yummm.
still been going to the club where 2nite it will be celebrating its 60th bday should b good anyway alot more to say but no time.
lots of love missing you all.xxxx

meeting the children
ok have sooo much 2 say and time on comp running out. basically the children are all soo welcoming wanting to meet us hear about us and some are happy to tell us about themselves which really is a shock to us and hard to hear what they have to say.
you wouldnt believe the poor little babies so cute its soo sad i want to bring them all home.
also the orphanage is ridled with rats at nite man rats aswell which i am sooo scared of but am trying to conquer my fear!
there are these two "naughty" boys which climb up our walls steal our stuff and say some of the most unbelievable things 4 11 and 12 year olds but wen u get 1 on 1 time with them its unreal what they have to say and what you can get out of them so there like our little project they are called roger and bongani although we all called bongani roger more 4 a while as he is like his little follower. bongani has been told 4 months he was going home and when the day came the courts said no this little boy had packed and had 2 unpack that was a hard day!
the nursery at the orphanage is soo basic hardly any toys no music and no colour. there are just soo many baibies u spend all your time feeding and changing but the is trying to think of a way to help that.
we took the children to the cinema today 4 the toddlers it was their 1st time being out it was amazing to see their faces they all got popcorn 2. although 4 me there was a togh bit as 1 of the girls who is about 4 (but they dont know her actual age) needed the toilet so they asked me to take her and told me swill be shy 2 go as she had been raped severel times!!!
i am also working at a centre called masibambisane for children afeected by hiv. we get to go out alot there while the children are at school like home visits which i havent done yet although every day the centre bakes cookies and we walk around kliptown selling them which is the poorest of the poor just shaks we got to gto inside the shaks aswell so many people in such a basic small space. kliptown stinks and has rubbish everywhere!
i also must tell u about this club we went 2 and are going back 2nite it was just amazing open air dj bar bbq we were all getting lessons from the locals of how 2 dance to south african house music which was soo good and the atmosphere was amazing we met some great poeple it was like we were celebs i also must mention this club was in soweto!!!
still so much to say but no more time. i have no idea wen i will next access the internet so prob another blog then!!
hope all is good
missing home alot.xxx

first two nights
wow so much to tell! so a ten hour flight which gave me and the other volunteers a chance to meeet and chat. we got to jburg airport early in the morning then came to the hostel to stay 4 two nights called the johannesburg ritz hostel and for a hostel it is the ritz! it has a pool, bar and a pool table! we have made lots of use of these three luxeries. after getting to the hostel we went straight out 4 a tour of jburg and soweto. we were all sooo tired after the all night drinks on the plane. we went to the museum about the apartied where hector piersons sister actually works. (for those that dont know hector pierson was the first boy 2 be killed in the riot at only 13 years old.) when we finally got back swam in the pool and had an early night.
when waking up today we went to the orphanage we will be living in from tomorrow met some of the tiny babies and then the older children when they got back from school, all the babies and children were so happy to meet us and were all putting their hands up to us. and had an orientation. there are 90 children in othendweni including 30 babies. we then came back to the hotel freshened up went for a meal then spent the rest of the night in the bar where we had some great conversations.
i have to tell you all there is one thing i cannot get my head around in some villages of south africa they belive that to sleep with virgins wich basically means children gets rid of hiv\aids although they know this is wrong it is not tabbo as they believe it cures!
everyone im travelling with seems great so far we all get on really well and all have great storys to tell ach other so good so far although im aware this may change at some point!
the school children here seem to walk very far on dangerous roads for school which in the uk just wouldnt be allowed. people stand in the middle of these dangerous trying to sell things to drivers which also would not be allowed in the uk! taxis are big and drive people around cheaply and beep as there driving if there are saets so other people can jump in and share the fares!
things here are so different in some ways great and some ways bad.
as far as things go i am enjoying what i am doing although slightly miss things.
sorry if i have rambled on just left the bar!!!
anyway off to live in othendweni orphanage tomorrow and off to bed now hope all is good back home!!xxx
lovexxx
