ok have sooo much 2 say and time on comp running out. basically the children are all soo welcoming wanting to meet us hear about us and some are happy to tell us about themselves which really is a shock to us and hard to hear what they have to say.
you wouldnt believe the poor little babies so cute its soo sad i want to bring them all home.
also the orphanage is ridled with rats at nite man rats aswell which i am sooo scared of but am trying to conquer my fear!
there are these two "naughty" boys which climb up our walls steal our stuff and say some of the most unbelievable things 4 11 and 12 year olds but wen u get 1 on 1 time with them its unreal what they have to say and what you can get out of them so there like our little project they are called roger and bongani although we all called bongani roger more 4 a while as he is like his little follower. bongani has been told 4 months he was going home and when the day came the courts said no this little boy had packed and had 2 unpack that was a hard day!
the nursery at the orphanage is soo basic hardly any toys no music and no colour. there are just soo many baibies u spend all your time feeding and changing but the is trying to think of a way to help that.
we took the children to the cinema today 4 the toddlers it was their 1st time being out it was amazing to see their faces they all got popcorn 2. although 4 me there was a togh bit as 1 of the girls who is about 4 (but they dont know her actual age) needed the toilet so they asked me to take her and told me swill be shy 2 go as she had been raped severel times!!!
i am also working at a centre called masibambisane for children afeected by hiv. we get to go out alot there while the children are at school like home visits which i havent done yet although every day the centre bakes cookies and we walk around kliptown selling them which is the poorest of the poor just shaks we got to gto inside the shaks aswell so many people in such a basic small space. kliptown stinks and has rubbish everywhere!
i also must tell u about this club we went 2 and are going back 2nite it was just amazing open air dj bar bbq we were all getting lessons from the locals of how 2 dance to south african house music which was soo good and the atmosphere was amazing we met some great poeple it was like we were celebs i also must mention this club was in soweto!!!
still so much to say but no more time. i have no idea wen i will next access the internet so prob another blog then!!
hope all is good
missing home alot.xxx

Hi darling
ReplyDeleteIt sounds heartbreaking. It is nice to think that the kids and babies have you to give them a little ray of sunshine and happiness.
As for the rats, some people keep them as pets, you just need to think of them as little pets...
Hope you are OK and keeping safe
missing you loads and loads

There you go ... and I've been trying to get you into South African House for years.
ReplyDeleteYou should know you have history with rats. We had them in the mill when you were a baby, chewing the potatoes in the next door room at night. We could see them running along the wiring underneath the roof eaves. We had to deal with them but rats always seem to me less threatening in the country than in the town. The dormice (more like squirrels) were a bigger problem to get rid of. Francis shot 75 with a carbine before giving up and smoking them out.
Hope all's going well. Is Kliptown anything like the shantytown in Tsotsi?
All my love,
Dad
